Kuching Waterfront still safe to visit Print E-mail
KUCHING: Sarawak will not impose additional security measures along the Kuching Waterfront, one of the state's popular tourist spots, as the existing measures to tackle the crime problem are adequate.

Assistant Minister of Tourism and Heritage Assistant Minister Datuk Talip Zulpilip said crime cases such as the snatch theft that occurred recently to a foreign tourist near the Kuching Waterfront was an isolated case, and should not create unnecessary panic for locals and foreign tourists.

"The Kuching Waterfront is safe to visit," he told reporters after opening the Ramadan Bazaar at Sarawak Plaza, here, yesterday.

Talip also dismissed the possibility of putting up a fence along the waterfront as a preventive measure against snatch theft.

"The Kuching Waterfront is for the public to visit and putting up a fence there will defeat the purpose;" he said. – Bernama
