KUCHING: The tenants of the newly-completed Kubah Ria Complex at Jalan Matang have been warned against subletting their shops. For those caught subletting their premises to other people, their lease will be terminated within 24 hours. "We don't want entrepreneurs who want to reap profits without putting much effort into it," said Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Datuk Talib Zulpilip. He also said they were bound to regulations, such as fixed operating hours. "They cannot close their shops for no good reason. Action will be taken against them," he said. Talib, who is also Assistant Minister of Tourism, was closing a two day Food Handling and Financial Management organised for the 70 tenants of the RM20 million complexes. Business is expected to commence today, said Talib. "Out of the 858 applications, only 91 were selected to operate there," he told reporters. Talib added that priority was given to entrepreneurs from the existing Kubah Ria area. "The current location is too close to the road and is dusty. This is a much safer and comfortable option." Food vendors make up 44 of the lots that will be selling various local cuisines such as satay, laksa, roti canai and nasi ayam penyet. Meanwhile, 47 more are setting up various types of business, ranging from tailoring and hair salon to home appliances shop and computer service centre. Talib also advised them to put cleanliness on high priority, dish out quality food, and record all their financial transactions. Also present at the ceremony were Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Mohd Atei Abang Medaan and SEDC general manager Dr Sulaiman Husaini. The Borneo Post 10 Aug 2010 |
