| Big Crowd expected at special two-day fest |

KUCHING: A two-day festival dubbed "Pesta Nostalgia Permaidani Kampung Boyan-Gersik-Sourabaya (BGS)" to be held at the Medan Niaga Permaidani Kampung Boyan-Gersik-Sourabaya (BGS), Petra Jaya here on March 19 and 20 is expected to attract a big crowd. The festival, from 10 am to 10.30 pm on both days, is jointly organised by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SDEC) and Ministry of Tourism Sarawak will feature various interesting and fun-filled programmes and activities like food fest, nostalgic exhibition, P Ramlee Song Duet singing competition, a Ratu Kebaya contest, a decorative boat show and demonstration of traditional games. Assistant Minister of Tourism and Heritage Datuk Haji Talib Zulpilip told a media conference at Bangunan Baitul Makmur in Petra Jaya here yesterday that the public is invited to attend the two-day festival, which is being held for the first time. The first day will start at 1O am with a nostalgic exhibition, a food fair promotion and sales of local and delicacies. There will be a display of traditional games like 'guli', 'tungko','gasing', 'batu seremban' and 'jengkek'. Other than that, there will be P Ramlee Song duet singing competition and a Ratu Kebaya contest. The Decorative Perahu Tambang and House Decorative Lights will continue to be held on the second day. "We are expecting to attract between 5,000 people to 9,000 people to the event. The finale of the festival will be Nostalgia Night on the evening of March 20 (Saturday) when Chief Minister Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud will grace the occasion," said Talib, who is also SEDC chairman said. According to Talib, the event this year if proven to be successful will be included in the Ministry of Tourism Sarawak's calendar of annual events. The Permaidani BGS Project which was developed by SEDC started with the earth-breaking ceremony by the Chief Minister on March 7 last year. The handing over of the premises to the tenants was carried out in stages starting July 23 last year.
