KUCHING: The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) will hold a festival called 'Permaidani Kampung Boyan-Gersik-Sourabaya (BBGS)' on March 19 and 20. The event will be held at Tapak Permaidani Kampung BGS here, said the corporation's chairman Datuk Talib Zulpilip yesterday during a press conference in his office. The first of its kind, the festival is jointly organised with the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage (MOTH). If successful, the event would be included in the tourism calendar and expanded to other places in the state, said Talib who is also Assistant Minister of Tourism and Heritage. "Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud would officiate at the opening ceremony on March 20. We expect more than 9,000 people to come," he said. Other than promoting the stalls at Permaidani Kampung BSG, the event is also aimed at encouraging the holding of touristic activities. For that, the organiser has listed many interesting activities including contests and traditional games for visitors. They include nostalgic exhibition, local food sales and promotion, 'batu seremban', 'jengkek', demonstration of `main guli', 'bergendang' and 'tungko'. The contests are duet singing of P Ramlee songs, decorating water taxis (perahu tambang berhias) and the star attraction, `Ratu Kebaya Nostalgia'. Borneo Post 03/03/2010 |
