KUCHING: The present tenants of the existing Kubah Ria at Jalan Matang, Petra Jaya here will be given priority to occupy the new premises at the Kubah Ria Baru Bumiputra Commercial Complex at Jalan Matang, Petra Jaya upon its completion next year. Assistant Minister of Industrial Development (Promotion and Development of Industrial Estates), Datuk Haji Daud Abdul Rahman, when visiting the site of the project yesterday told reporters that at the moment there were altogether 59 tenants at the existing Kubah Ria - some of them are operating, some are half operating while some are closing down. Whatever it is we will give priority to the 59 tenants, especially the 25 of them who had bought and own the property (business premises) there. There are also 19 others who have been paying their rental regularly and these 44 will be given top priority to move to the new Kubah Ria Complex,he added. There are 15 of them who had not paid their rental regularly or who had not paid their rental and we will only give considerations them once they have settled out their rental, he added. Therefore, all the 59 of them, if they comply with our requirements, will be given the priority to move to the new Kubah Ria, said Daud, who is also Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Office (Islamic Affairs). Daud, who is also Tupong Assemblyman, said the whole present Kubah Ria will be demolished come March next year when the construction of new Kubah Ria Complex is completed. Meanwhile, SEDC Chairman, Datuk Haji Talip Zulpilip, said the new Kubah Ria would attract more customers as banks, boutique, clinic, launderette and so on would be invited to operate at the new complex. Seafood outlets would also be encouraged, he added. He said some 400 applications have so far been received. The rentals, according to him, would be quite low compared to market rates. The proposed rental would be RM160 per month for food stalls, RM450 per month for retail lots on ground floor and RM250 per month for retail lots on the upper floor. We want members of bumiputera business community to be serious and we want then to operate not less than 12 hours daily and seven days weekly. If there are any tenants who close their shops for seven consecutive days or for one consecutive week, the rental permit will be withdrawn, he said, adding that SEDC would be monitoring the performance of the tenants. According to the Desmond Kuek, the project's consultant, the development of the proposed Kubah Ria Baru which commenced on September 2 last year was now about 43.76% completed. The RM16.239 million project is scheduled for completion in March next year. Eastern Times 07/07/2009 |
