KUCHING: The residents of the Sarawak Orphans Welfare Association (Peryatim) complex here have been constantly receiving threats from emphatic and caring society during the current fasting month.

They have been treated to a breaking of fast as well as receiving the Raya money.
On Tuesday night the spirit of Ramadhan saw the management of the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), together with SEDC properties, Crowne Plaza Riverside Kuching and Holiday Inn Kuching treating 150 orphans from the home to a breaking of fast at the Holiday Inn Kuching's "Macam-Macam Ada" Mega Buffet.

The event was graced by the wife of Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Puan Sri Hajah Laila Taib and SEDC Chairman, Datuk Haji Talib Zulpilip.

Also present were the State Legislative Assembly Speaker, Dato Sri Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar and few other elected representatives, SEDC officers and hotel staff.

The breaking of fast reception was followed by Maghrib, Isya' and Terawih prayers, after which the children were presented with "duit raya".

According to the organisers, such an annual event was in line with their aim of promoting and fostering of empathy and a caring attitude to others, within the corporation and as a member of the community at large.
