BINTULU: The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) will continue to support those Bumiputera entrepreneurs who have the guts to compete and be successful just like other non-Bumi entrepreneurs, says its chairman Datuk Talib Zulpilip. Unfortunately still not enough number of enterprising Bumiputeras were coming forward to talk to SEDC about their business plans, Talib said. “It’s just a matter of whether they want to grab the opportunities that we have provided them or just let them go,†he said when officiating at the Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development Council talk at Regency Plaza Hotel here yesterday. The SEDC-organised talk gave in-depth information and ideas to the participants about the availability of funds from government agencies like SEDC and also from other financial institutions to start or expand their businesses. Talib said SEDC was ever ready with the means to help Bumi entrepreneurs whom he described as rather lukewarm to competitiveness. He said that Bumiputera entrepreneurs should emulate their Chinese counterparts on how to do business successfully, and see the business world from a wider perspective in order to do well in their chosen field. Talib added that the SEDC did not only give loans to encourage or produce more Bumiputera entrepreneurs but it also would like to see them become more successful and improve the community’s standard of living. He went on to say that women formed the largest group of loan recipients from SEDC since 1993, accounting to more than 60 per cent, 66 per cent of whom were from the rural areas. “The assistance shows that we want to improve the livelihood of the rural folk by encouraging them to be involved in the business world,†he said. Bintulu deputy Resident Sirai Dana was among those present at the function yesterday. Taken From: The Borneo Post Online |
