Soedirman Aini Takes Over As General Manager Of SEDC Print E-mail

Kuching. Wed: Tuan Haji Soedirman Hj. Aini is now the new General Manager of SEDC after taking over from YBhg. Datu Dr. Hj. Sulaiman Hj. Husaini effective January 1st 2012. YBhg. Datu Dr. Hi. Sulaiman, meanwhile has been appointed as the new General Manager of Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), effective the same date.

Soedirman is SEDC's new General Manager Print E-mail

KUCHING: Haji Soedirman Haji Aini is now the new General Manager of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), taking over from Datu Dr Haji Sulaiman Haji Husaini, effective from 1 January, 2012. Dr Sulaiman, meanwhile, has been appointed as the new General Manager of Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), effective from the same date. Soedirman, 56, who hails from Kuching, was formerly the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Social Development and has wide experience in public and private sectors. He started his career with Petronas in 1982 and after serving 13 years with the company, he resigned in 1995 to join the Sarawak State Government.

Raise integrity level,civil servants urged Print E-mail

KUCHING: The level of integ­rity in the civil service can be improved if civil servants are more focused and committed to their jobs, said Chief Minister Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud. The Chief Minister said he did not have the overall assess­ment of the level of integrity in the state civil service, but integ­rity was all about a person's approach on his job with total commitment to perform well with honesty.

Taib urged all departments and agencies to continue their journey of integrity and not to stop at what they have achieved. They should keep on improving to do better."If we are complacent we will become mediocre and risk becoming irrelevant. Temptations come in various forms. Temptations know no boundary. They can happen to those from the lower level right up to the top. "We have seen around us either within the country or outside that corruption and abuse of power has brought about the downfall of many, including the very powerful and influential organisations and individuals." Therefore, he said a system must be put in place to ensure greater accountability in the day-to-day management.

KUCHING: Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud says he is generally pleased with the level of integrity among Sarawakians especially those at the top level. "I don't have the overall assessment. It is not easy to do so but one thing about integrity is that when a person approaches his job with total commitment his honesty will just become a sideline. "My impression of our people, not only the civil servants, is that they are more focused on their jobs. You can see they are very committed and because of that I expect the degree of integrity among our people will increase from time to time.

Taib: Be knowledgeable Print E-mail

KUCHING: Civil servants must be empowered with knowledge so that they can exercise their authority effectively on the ground. Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said this was a challenge that had to be met in order to have better administration at lower lev­els. "When you want to bring your administration to have more power on the ground, you have to arm your people with good knowledge and to get them very focused on their jobs. "That takes 10 to 15 years, I think. If we don't do that, there will be problems in how they exercise their power at the lower level," he told reporters after opening Sarawak Economic Development Corporation's (SEDC) Integrity Day here yesterday.

A regular blood donor since 1984, the 54-year-old man has been advised to stop donating blood since three years ago after being diagnosed with heart problems.

"A majority of these entrepreneurs has no means to compete with established players due to the lack of capital and premises to successfully develop their business and so providing them with the necessary infrastructures like trading premises and factories will ensure them with a good start. "Being a player in most of the major development project in the State, SEDC has also contributed directly to the development of the Kota Samarahan Division through the building of commercial buildings. Once a far and out of reach area, the town centre has now come alive with the construction of modern townhouses in planned township," added Talib.
