SEDC, through its Tourism & Leisure Division, is a major player in the State's tourism industry.

As the guardian to SEDC's tourism investment, the Tourism & Leisure Division fulfilling the Government's desire to see a critical mass of tourism-related infrastructure being put in place to propel a take-off for the State tourism industry.

SEDC, through this Division, owns and operates some of Sarawak's well-known hotels, resorts, leisure amenities and other tourism-related properties.

2.1

SEDC's involvement in the tourism industry of Sarawak dates back to 1972, with the development of the first international hotel, the Grand Margherita Hotel along the Sarawak River in Kuching, the State's capital. Today, the area has flourished into the Golden Triangle of the city with other major developments around it.

SEDC opened  up the Damai area with the development of Damai Beach Resort in 1986. Today, Damai is Sarawak's premier holiday and resort area with other SEDC owned resorts and tourism attractions such as Damai Puri Resort & Spa, Damai Golf & Country Club, Sarawak Cultural Village and Permai Rainforest Resort.

Today, SEDC is still a major player in the tourism industry with the most number of the State's tourism assets in terms of international class hotels, a golf course, and other tourist attractions.
