The companies involved in the Livestock activities are:

ROSEWOOD STATION PTY LTD

This SEDC-owned, Australian-registered company owns a 280,000 hectare cattle breeding station in the Northern Territory, Australia with 28,000 head of cattle; and a 14,711 hectares cattle fattening station at Strathmere-Beardie Aggregation, St. George, Queensland, Australia.  

Strathmere-Beardie Aggregation is an ideal place for cattle fattening from Rosewood Station and farms from surrounding area. The farms's carrying capacity is 5,000 heads.

Besides cattle fattening, the farm can also produce crops such as wheat and sorghum.

PPES TERNAK SDN BHD
This company owns a 600-hectare cattle farm at Sungai Karabungan near Miri. The principal activities are:

(i) Breeding

Deer -      Cerrus timorensis russa are bred for sale as live animals or as venison.
Goat - Goats are reared and sold live for Aqiqah and Qurban and/or as goat meat for the local market

 

(ii) Feedlotting (Fattening)

The feeder cattle from Rosewood Station, Australia, and calves of the Karabungan farm are fattened in the feedlot, before being sold in the local market.

   

 

 

(iii) Abattoir Services

 

The Kuching Abattoir Complex provides services for the slaughtering of cattle, camel and small ruminants (goat, sheep & deer). It is the only ruminant abattoir in the State with halal certification.

 

(iv) Cattle Fattening Scheme

Cattle in feedlot

The cattle fattening scheme is jointly undertaken by the State Development Office (SDO) & SEDC with funding by the Ministry of Rural & Regional Development. This activity is in line with the Government's objective to eradicate poverty for the rural community.

PPES Ternak Sdn. Bhd. supplies cattle to the rural community and undertakes marketing on a buy-back basis. Technical input is provided by the Veterinary Division of the Department of Agriculture.The participants also act as agents for PPES Ternak Sdn. Bhd. in the sale of live cattle in their own locality.

 

(v) Cattle Integration Project  

    

The Cattle Integration project is jointly undertaken by Department of Agriculture (DOA) and SEDC through its subsidiary, PPES Ternak Sdn Bhd with funding from the Federal Government.

 

The breeder cattle will be supplied to oil palm plantations by DOA under the Pawah Scheme. Under this scheme, the participating plantations will pay back / return to DOA the same number of animals aged 8 months and above within 5 years

 

The objectives of the project are:-

  1. To support the Government objective towards increasing livestock in the country.
  2. To maximise output from land use.
  3. To benefit oil palm plantations whereby weeds are biologically controlled and the cost of weedicide reduced.
