Roads and Works Through its strategic partnership with public listed Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad, SEDC is active in infrastructure development of Sarawak. It has participated in various public works projects such as the building of the Satok Flyover, the Bako Causeway, construction of roads, barrage dams, highway, bridges and re-surfacing of airport runways. One of its most ambitious infrastructure projects is the Sarawak River Regulation Scheme - a system of barrages, locks, connecting bridges and ancillary works which is one of the major privatised public works projects in Sarawak.
On 13 August 2002, an early morning fire
broke out in a row of 28 pre war wooden shophouses in Mukah. The fire
spread rapidly, completely destroying all the buildings. Shopkeepers
who are the victims, many of whom had been in business for 2 generations,
were faced with a bleak outlook. Once again, PPES Works (Sarawak)
Sdn Bhd assisted on this occasion playing a role in the construction
of temporary commercial units for the the fire victims. In just 5 weeks,
28 temporary units of single-storey shoplots were completed within
the site of the future commercial centre.
