PLANTATION


The companies involved in the Plantation activities are:-

SOP KARABUNGAN SDN BHD

This is a joint-venture between SEDC (30%) and Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (70%) involved in the development of a 2,023 ha oil palm plantation at Karabungan, Miri.

SARA-HL PLANTATION SDN BHD

This is a joint-venture between SEDC (30%) and Hon Lian Development Sdn Bhd (70%) involved in the development of a 3,125 ha oil palm plantation in Lundu.

EASTERN EMPRESS SILK SDN BHD

A wholly owned subsidiary which is the State's first and only sericulture (silk industry) centre situated at Kampung Pueh, Sematan. Its Integrated Silk Processing Centre is involved in sericulture activities ranging from the nurturing of mulberry plants to rearing of silkworms, silk throwing and weaving of quality silk fabric.

The Centre is currently operated by Zuhrah Pelangi Sdn Bhd on lease basis.


HAKANDA SDN BHD

This is a wholly-owned subsidiary company involved in the development of a fruit orchard at Snibong, Lundu. Short term and long term fruits- star fruits, papaya, jack fruits, pamelo, rambutan and durian are grown in this 104.3 ha orchard.

COCONUT PLANTATION

In line with the Government aspiration to increase food production, the Division is also looking into the possibility of venturing into developing a 2,115 ha coconut plantation at Asajaya to support the coconut processing and activated carbon activities by ensuring ready supply of raw materials (nuts and shells).
