Entrepreneur Carnival at Medan Niaga Sematan

 

 


SEMATAN: The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) held an Entrepreneur Carnival at Medan Niaga in Sematan over the weekend as part of its efforts to promote the newly completed business premises.

Its chairman, Datuk Haji Talib Zulpilip, and Tanjung Datu State Assemblymen, Dato Sri Adenan Haji Satem yesterday officiated at the carnival, which managesed to attract thousand of visitors.

Food and drinks and handicraft were on sale while cooking competition, food and best drink stall decoration contest, karaoke competition and a children’s colouring contest were also held in conjunction with the two-day event.

The objective of the carnival was to promote Medan Niaga Sematan as a competitive trading and commercial centre as well as a centre for social activities.

The construction of the trading centre, which comprises food stalls and lock-up shops, was part of SEDC’s entrepreneur development programme to provide trading spaces at affordable rental rates to Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the area.

Medan Niaga Sematan, developed at the cost of RM2.9 million, was completed and open for business on April 3, this year. It comprises 12 units of lock-up stalls and 15 units of food stalls. The rental is charged at the initial fee of RM200 per unit per month.

There are ample parking facilities and public amenities meant for the convenience of the patrons.

The project was financed by the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development.
