MARCH 2008 1/3 – SEDC’s Entrepreneurs’ Carnival held at our R & R Bekenu. Besides the selling of products and produces by entrepreneurs there was also the exhibition of goods and services by government agencies at the event. 2/3 – Sukan Ria Jepak held at Dewan Niaga Jepak. Activities for the day’s event included cooking competition, exhibition of goods and services by government agencies and sports and games competition. 3/3 – New staff members, Cik Madeleine Lawas ak Anau and Encik Jidal bin Musili reported for duty. Cik Madeline holds the post of Pembantu Tadbir, N17 (Contract) and is attached to our PIBU Sarikei office while Encik Jidal, a driver (contract) is attached to our Miri Regional Office. 6/3 – Secretary General, PEDAS, Puan Patricia Punai distributed educational visit forms to members for the choice of an educational trip for 2008. 7/3 – Chief Minister, YAB Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud officiated at the ground breaking of SEDC’s business premises of Kampung Boyan/Gersik and Sourabaya. 10/3 – Sara Resorts Management Sdn Bhd and Development People (TNDP) will organise, “The Secretaries & Administrative Professional Convention” on April 10 and 11 2008 at Crowne Plaza Riverside Hotel aired on Info Telly News (ITN). SEDC Long Service Award 2007 presentation ceremony held at Dewan Kenyalang. Thirty-two staff who have served the corporation for 15, 20, 25 and 30 years were awarded with certificate, cash and Koperasi Koppes Shares. Awards were presented by YB Datuk Chairman. Cik Noor Azilah binti Ngatidjo of PIBU Sarikei redeployed to PIBU Kuching while Puan Beatrice ak Nyani from PIBU Kuching was redeployed to Entrepreneur Development Division, SEDC Headquarters. 11/3 – “Mesyuarat Jawatankuasa Perjawatan PPES” chaired by State Secretary and SEDC Board member, YB Datuk Amar Wilson Baya Dandot held at Bilik Helang. 13/3 – Tender notice by PPES Ternak Sdn Bhd on the “Proposed One Block of Single Storey Terrace Staff Quarters and Associated Works at Karabungan Farm, Miri” advertised in Borneo Post. 14/3 – SEDC organised a Management Talk entitled, “ Can We Really Manage The Future” at Crowne Plaza Riverside Hotel. It was presented by Dr. Pero Micic from Germany. An MOU Signing Ceremony on Integrity Pact between Transparency International Malaysia and SEDC was also signed before the talk. Our YB Datuk Chairman signed for SEDC while Mr. Richard Wong, Treasurer for Transparency International, Malaysia signed for his company. 17/3 – Director of HRM, Encik Paul Ningkan issued a Staff circular No. 1.2008 stating that no staff is allowed to conduct/carry out any personnel business during office hours. 18/3 – Out beloved colleague, Puan Zubaidah binti Bohari passed away at Normah Medical specialist Centre. Thirty-two of our colleagues commenced their 2-day programme on, “Small Group Activities (SGA) for Innovative & Creative circle (ICC) at Dewan Kenyalang. 24/3 – A 21-member delegation from Natural Resources and Environmental Board (NREB) came for 5S study visit to SEDC. The Corporation has agreed to adopt the State circular No. 7/2008 on the decision that all SEDC staff are encouraged to wear Malaysian batik on Thursday aired on ITN. New SEDC staff, Cik Dayang Baizura binti Abang Rahim, Pembantu Tadbir N17 (Contract) for PIBU Kota Samarahan reported for duty. HRM Training Unit reminded staff that were given survey forms by students from Institute of Higher Learning to return forms to the Unit aired on ITN. Director of CRD/CMD, Encik Gabriel E. Blassan handed-over staff collection to Puan Siti Zaiton Jahidin. 25/3 – Koperasi Koppes invited members to participate in its motorcycle auction aired on ITN. A farewell lunch attended by our Management staff for Encik Saadi Same’on was held at Meisan Restaurant, Holiday Inn Kuching. Encik Saadi went on compulsory retirement on 19 March 2008 after serving the Corporation for 24 years. A 4-day 5S Audit to check on the performance status of all groups commenced on this day. 25/3 – Encik Nicholas Jeffrey of ICTD conducted an in-house computer training programme on Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird for staff of the Corporation at Dewan Kenyalang. 26/3 – Our 42nd Management Executive Meeting (MEM) held at Bilik Nuri. The meeting chaired by our General manager, Puan Laura Lee tabled 1 Decision and 1 Information papers. There was also a presentation on SEDC website at the meeting. Twenty-five of our 5S Group Leaders and Facilitators together with some officers from Damai Beach Resort commenced their 2-day programme on, “ICC’s small Group Activities (SGA) which focused on “Kaizen” activity for 5S. 27/3 – 132nd Chairman’s committee Meeting (CCM) held at Santubong Aquaculture Farm. 1 Decision and 1 Information Papers were tabled at the meeting chaired by our YB Datuk Chairman. PEDAS Extra Ordinary Meeting (EGM) held at Dewan Kenyalang. The agenda were; a) To amend the rate of subscription fee/salary deduction to PEDAS. b) Amend to Rule 8 of the Rule and Constitution of SEDC Social and Recreation Club. 28/3 – T & L hosted our SEDC Get-Together at Dewan Kenyalang. Theme for the morning was “Colorful”. 30/3 – Our Zikir Group, “Suara SEDC” secured 5th placing at the YB Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman’s and YB Haji Fadillah Yusof’s Zikir Challenge Trophy. Thirty-five zikir groups took part at the yearly competition held at Masjid Attaqwa, Kampung Pinang Jawa, Kuching. SEDC Inter-Team Bowling Competition held at Riverside Superbowl. Gunung Santubong won 1st placing with 5,256 pin falls, 2nd was Gunung Gading with 5,195 pin falls and 3rd placing went to Gunung Mulu with 5,122 pin falls. Gunung Serapi was in 4th place with 5,079 pin falls. Encik Mohamad Morshidi was the men’s individual winner with 7223 pin falls while Puan Jamilah Fauzi was the winner in the ladies’ category with 575 pin falls.
